WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL!
Dear K1 parents,
We are very excited to begin the new school year with you. We would like to give a big welcome to all the children entering kindergarten, those returning for 1st grade, and to the new families at MIS. We are sure it is going to be a great year!
Here is a little bit about the teachers:
Esther, originally from Madrid, Spain, arrived at MIS in 2012 after teaching Kindergarten at a Spanish immersion school in Denver, Colorado. Prior to working in Denver, Esther taught early childhood education for 15 years and became a preschool director for three years. Esther has extensive training and experience in working with young children. Esther also enjoys designing consignment clothing for adults and children.
Prior to joining MIS in 2011, John taught in Mexico at the Jesuit University of Guadalajara. He taught children in immersion and bilingual K-12 settings in New York City and Pocatello, Idaho. John holds an M.A. in Spanish and Education from the City University of New York, Hunter College and a B.A. in Spanish from Idaho State University. In addition to teaching, John enjoys writing and playing music and spending time with his wife in the outdoors.
Lorena Montaño is an Amnity Intern and Spanish-Humanities teacher from Bogotá, Colombia who will be assisting in both K1 classes this year. She loves to dance Salsa and Curulao. Welcome!
As you probably already know, we will be having our Parent Curriculum Meeting and Social this Thursday, August 28, from 4 to 6 pm. We look forward to spending this time getting to know each other better and answering your questions about the K1 program. We encourage all parents to attend so that families who have been attending MIS already can help us give a big welcome to the new families joining us this year. Together we can begin the year building a strong learning community.
Here is the schedule for Thursday:
4:00 p.m. – Meet on the Playground – Drop off school supplies at your teacher’s table and join in the circle.
4:30 – 5:30 p.m. – K1 curriculum meeting in Esther’s classroom – Childcare will be provided at this time if you wish; your child is also welcome to attend the meeting with you. The format of the meeting will be centers-based and the preschool meeting with be taking place at the same time. So you can use this hour to move freely between both meetings.
5:30 – 6:00 p.m. – Join us on the playground for a picnic and time to socialize and meet teachers and families.
We look forward to seeing you all on Thursday!
