Dear k/1 families,
Unit of Inquiry
As part of our unit Where We Are In Place and Time, students in k/1 have been inquiring these past weeks into more world celebrations such as Las Fallas, Nicolaustag, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Carnaval, and Kwanzaa. Students drew and wrote about celebrations as well as created arts and crafts that represent traditions. For example, both classes collaborated to create a representation of Carnaval de Oruro, celebrated in Bolivia each year.
Questions for discussion at home:
How do people celebrate this holiday?
What traditions do families celebrate?
Where do they celebrate?
When do they celebrate?
Why do people celebrate this holiday?
We finished the week with a field trip Montana Theater on UM campus to see a dance performance to support our next unit of inquiry, How We Express Ourselves.
- We would love to have some parents come to our classes to present about some holiday traditions they share with their families. Some options might include: Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, Hannukah, Christmas, Reyes Magos, and New Year. Please talk to your child’s teacher if you are interested.
- Please sign up at the following link if you’d like to help with the k/1 Holiday Parties on Friday December 20 from 1:45 – 3:15.
Have a great weekend!
